the central part of a piece of writing and what the author
is trying to tell the reader.
If the main idea is implied, it could be found anywhere
in the writing, and sometimes you have to find it “between
the lines”.
However, the title or the topic sentence of a writing often
directly expresses the main idea.
Once you understand the main idea, you get the essence of
the writing.
