clauses are dependent clauses, so named because they begin
with a relative pronoun: who, which, or that. Relative clauses are used to modify nouns denoting people
or things.
Examples:
The women who live in the same house on Green Street are
cousins.
Jack, who teaches mechanical drawing, also has his law
degree.
The party, which you threw for my birthday, was really
wild.
The Alexander Bridge, which was built in 1927, spans the
Feather River.
The building that caught on fire was condemned(被宣布为危房)a
month ago.
I'd like to meet the boy that won the district speech
contest.
