The oceans and the rivers of the world contain
most of the water. The five oceans and the many seas together
have 97.2 percent. The Pacific Ocean alone is larger than
all the land in the world. And on the land there are lakes.
Many of them are larger than countries the size of Belgium.
There are also huge rivers, thirty of them more than two thousand
kilometers long.
The great areas of ice in the world contain another 2.15
percent of the world’s water; the rest is in rocks and underground.
