EGYPTAIR recorder focus of search

NEWPORT, R.I., Nov.15 (AP) — Navy recovery crews continued their search on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean Friday for the voice cockpit recorder of Egyt Air Flight 990, but technical problems cut the effort short. The remote-controlled robot Magnum went back into the water about 2 a.m., but was pulled out four hours later. Navy commander Timothy O’Leary said the robot would be repaired and back in action soon. Meanwhile, another robot, Deep DRONE, was on its way to the crash site 60 miles off Nantucket Island, Mass. High seas on Thursday halted efforts to find the “black box” which may help reveal what happened during the final moments of the doomed flight. The tape could include crew member conversations and cockpit noises.
