Teachers at universities sometimes complain
that part of the students show limitations in their thinking.
At a number of English-speaking universities, teachers have
commented on students’ belief that theories should be wholly
‘right’, that a translation should be able to convey the exact
meaning of the original, or that experts should never make
mistakes. In the event that an exception to a theory was mentioned,
or an expert was found wrong in one of his views, those students
became very displeased; for when an authority failed them
they did not know what to do other than reject it completely.
