While at university I took a number of vacation jobs. To a nicely-brought-up girl from a rich family, the feeling of sitting eight hours a day packing chocolate buttons was indescribable. I also remember the feeling of being a non-person as a tea-lady to the managers and secretaries of a small firm. I hope the custom of students doing physical labour continues. For many of us it is the first time we have been in close contact as equals with members of the working class.
